Macro-financial assistance to Ukraine

INTA Members considered a draft report by Gabrielius Landsbergis on a proposal granting the EU macro-financial to Ukraine.

The Commission proposes a macro-financial assistance of up to 1,8 billion Euro in medium-term loans, to address Ukraine's short-term balance of payments needs and to support the reform programme of the Ukrainian authorities.

Companies should do their best to avoid sourcing from mines of minerals that are in the hands of rebels. On that all MEPs agree. But will all companies have to join the new EU due diligence system, or just those who opt in? Will the system apply only for the Great Lakes region like the US system or all conflict areas?  Will all companies or just importers from minerals and metals be covered by the new rules? Will the system be set up and controlled by national administrations or the European Commission? Those were some of the choices on INTA's plate when discussing the INTA draft report of Iuliu Winkler.

Public hearing on Trade in Services Agreement

On Tuesday, 24 February INTA held a hearing on Trade in Services Agreement (TiSA). TiSA brings together 23 Parties, with the EU counting as one, willing to advance in services liberalization and upgrade the current GATS, designed in apre-Internet era. Altogether TiSA participants represent 68% of global services.

Recommendations to the European Commission on the negotiations for the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP)

Members discussed a draft report by INTA Chairman Bernd Lange containing the Parliament's proposals to the Commission on the trade talks with the US on the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP). Rapporteur's draft recommendations call for a comprehensive, ambitious, balanced and high-standard agreement improving market access, reducing non-tariff barriers and enhancing the compatibility of regulatory standards and developing common rules. The draft urges to continue ongoing efforts to increase transparency in the EU-US trade and investment talks.

TTIP talks: EP committees discuss their recommendations for negotiators

Concern about the lack of tangible progress in TTIP talks were voiced by International trade MEPs who on Tuesday debated their draft recommendations for the TTIP negotiators. Lively discussion concerned the investor-to-state dispute-settlement clause, dubbed unnecessary by the chair, Bernd Lange (DE, S&D). Meanwhile, the development committee adopted an opinion stressing the impact of TTIP on developing countries and calling for the deal to have an explicit reference to development policy. (Läs mer)
