Welcome from the Chair 

It is a pleasure to welcome you to the internet pages of the Delegation to the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) Parliamentary Assembly. The Delegation of the European Parliament to the Euro-Mediterranean Parliamentary Assembly (EMPA) held its constitutive meeting in September 2004.

In September 2010, the Delegation of the European Parliament to the Euro-Mediterranean Parliamentary Assembly (EMPA) changed its name to the Delegation of the European Parliament to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean (DMED).

As recognised by the 2008 Paris Summit establishing the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM), the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean (PA-UfM) is the legitimate parliamentary extension of an enhanced Euro-Mediterranean Partnership.

DMED, the European Parliament's Delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean (PA-UfM), regularly meets in Strasburg with the aim of:

• providing impetus to/follow-up on the Assembly's activities,
• preparing PA-UfM committees' and plenary meetings and
• hosting debates on the latest developments in the region with key-speakers -- both stakeholders and representatives of partner institutions (the secretariat of the Union for the Mediterranean, the European Investment Bank, the European Commission, the European External Action Service, etc.)

This is the only European Parliament delegation that is chaired by the Parliament's President.
