  • An exchange of views on 'Progress of the negotiations on the updated EU-Mexico Global Agreement', with:
    - Mr Matthias Jorgensen, Head of Unit, DG Trade (via videoconference).

Meeting of 26 January 2017, Brussels

The agenda included an exchange of views on the state of play in negotiations on modernisation of the EU-Mexico Global Agreement with:
  • Mr Aldo Dell'Ariccia, Head of Division for Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean, EEAS
  • Mr Matthias Jorgensen, Head of Unit, DG Trade, European Commission.
The delegation prepared for the 22nd Meeting of the EU-Mexico JPC to be held in Mexico on 20 to 23 February 2017, considering a proposal for a draft programme, the topics selected and the respective rapporteurs.

Meeting of 6 October, 2016, Strasbourg

The Chair informed members that, in the absence of representatives from the Commission (DG Trade) and the European External Action Service, the main item on the agenda would be the preparation for the 21st Meeting of the EU-Mexico Joint Parliamentary Committee on 17 and 18 October 2016 in Brussels.

The Conference of Presidents had, on 8 September 2016, approved the dates of 17 and 18 October 2016 for the 21st EU-Mexico Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) meeting, to be held in Brussels.

The Chair proposed that a number of reports be prepared for the JPC and named rapporteurs. A draft programme for the visit was provisionally approved.

Meeting of 7 July 2016, Strasbourg

The Chair announced that the Conference of Presidents had decided, at its meeting on 4 May 2016, not to authorise the 21st Meeting of the EU-Mexico Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) planned for the second half of 2016, which would have been the second meeting to be held that year.

The Chair stated that she had written to President Martin Schulz to ask the Conference of Presidents to reconsider its decision of 4 May 2016.

The status of negotiations on the modernisation of the Global Agreement was discussed with:
  • the permanent Rapporteur for INTA, Mr Sorin Moiša, and
  • the Deputy Head of Division for Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean (EEAS), Mr Andreu Bassols.

Meeting of 21 April 2016, Brussels

The meeting included remarks on Mexico and EU-Mexico relations by:
  • Eloy Cantú Segovia, Mexican Ambassador to the EU.

An exchange of views with on the impact assessment on updating the EU-Mexico Global Agreement with:

  • Matthias Jorgensen (Head of Unit at DG TRADE, European Commission).

The Chair reported on the outcome of the 20th meeting of the EU-Mexico Joint Parliamentary Committee (9-11 February 2016, Mexico City and San Miguel de Allende).

The delegation prepared for the 20th meeting of the EU-Mexico Joint Parliamentary Committee, to be held from 9 to 11 February 2016, in Mexico.

Meeting of 29 October 2015, Strasbourg

The Vice-Chair announced that President Schulz had rejected the proposal to modify the Rules of Procedure of the EU-Mexico Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) to hold two meetings of the JPC each year.

The meeting included an exchange of views on the current state of EU-Mexico relations with:
  • Andreu Bassols, Deputy Head of Unit, Mexico and Central America, European External Action Service (EEAS).
An assessment was offered of the 19th meeting of the EU-Mexico Joint Parliamentary Committee, held on 7-9 July 2015 in Strasbourg.
