Presentation and competences
 

The EP/Canada Delegation is one of the oldest Delegations established by the European Parliament (the first meeting took place in March 1975).
 
The annual EP/Canada Interparliamentary meetings (IPMs) have generally underlined the excellent state of relations between the two countries.
 
Recent discussions have generally focused on the treaty framework under negotiation between the two partners - the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) and the Framework Agreement - as well as other topics such as energy security, visa and immigration policy or finding responses to the economic and financial crisis. 
 
Discussions during the 34th IPM (12-13 September 2011) focussed on the state of play of bilateral negotiations on CETA and the Framework Agreement, immigration policy, energy supply, as well as foreign policy and security.
