  • evaluation of and follow-up to the 25th Inter-Parliamentary Meeting (Strasbourg, 18 - 19 April 2018)
  • programme of activities for the second half of 2018.

Exchanges of views with the EEAS and the Commission were held on:
  • preparation of the 25th EU-SA Inter-Parliamentary meeting, which will take place on 18-19 April 2018 in Strasbourg.

Exchanges of views were held on:
  • preparation of the 25th EU-SA Inter-Parliamentary meeting, which will take place on 18-19 April 2018 in Strasbourg
  • constitutional aspects of traditional power structure in South African society; in visioconference with Dr Aninka Claassens, Land Reform Specialist and Member of the SA High Level Panel on the Assessment of Key Legislation and the Acceleration of Fundamental Change.

  • the South African Constitutional provisions of the local traditional power structure.

DROI and D-ZA Joint Hearing of 15 November 2017, Strasbourg 

Subcommittee on Human Rights (DROI) and Delegation for relations with South Africa (D-ZA) organized together a joint hearing on "Human rights and the conditions of mining-affected communities in South Africa".

Speakers included:
  • Anne Mayher, International Alliance on Natural Resources (IANRA) and David van Wyk, the Bench Marks Foundation (in visio conference)
  • members of DROI and D-ZA.

Meeting of 25 October 2017, Strasbourg 

The agenda points 1-5 were held in camera.

Exchanges of views were held on:
  • wheat quotas and other trade - related issues (point 5)
  • South Africa's position on the upcoming AU-EU Summit in Abidjan (point 6)
  • 9th Summit of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa on 4 September 2017 in Xiamen (point 7).

Meeting of 5 April 2017, Strasbourg 

Preparations for the 24th Inter-Parliamentary Meeting were discussed. The Chair presented the draft programme of the mission and a document with the suggested list of topics for the Inter-Parliamentary meeting.

Meeting of 15 February 2017, Strasbourg 

The meeting included a discussion about the status of development cooperation between EU and South Africa. Speakers included:
  • Michael Pennington (DG DEVCO),
  • Augustin Bondo Tshiani (DG DEVCO),
  • Tijn van Winsen (EEAS),
  • Friedel Dedekind (Embassy of South Africa).
The Chair introduced the first draft of the programme for the 24th EU-South Africa inter-parliamentary meeting, asking for suggestions/comments by 3 March 2017.

Meeting of 23 November 2016, Strasbourg 

The meeting included an exchange on views about South Africa's withdrawal from the International Criminal Court. Guest speakers included:
  • Baso Sangqu, Ambassador of South Africa,
  • Ottilia Anna Maunganidze (International Institute of Security Studies, South Africa),
  • Erminia Notarangelo (EEAS),
  • Allan Ngari (International Institute for Security Studies, South Africa).
All Members present expressed serious concern about the issue.

Meeting of 26 October 2016, Strasbourg 

The meeting included an exchange of views on the EU-SADC Economic Partnership Agreement. Guest speakers included:
  • Alexander Graf Lambsdorff, EP Rapporteur on the Agreement,
  • Gijs Berends (DG TRADE),
  • Sudhir Sooklal (South African Embassy).
