Conference on Implementation of Eastern Partnership and Association commitments, 2017 

On 23 March 2017, the European Parliament's Delegation to the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly (PA), in cooperation with the Open Society Foundation, organised a conference on the implementation of Eastern Partnership and Association Commitments in the fields of anti-discrimination, the judiciary and the fight against corruption.

The hosts of the conference were:
  • Ms Rebecca HARMS, Co-President of the Euronest PA
  • Mr Michał BONI, Co-Chair of the Euronest PA Political Committee
  • Mr Georgi PIRINSKI, Co-Chair of the Euronest PA Social Committee.
The first panel, on anti-discrimination policies, focused to the situation in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine.

The second panel, on justice sector reform, focused on the countries that have association agreements with the EU: Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine.

The third panel, on the fight against corruption, also focused on the countries that have association agreements with the EU: Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine.

Concluding remarks were given by:

  • Mr Marian LUPU, Chair of the Moldovan Delegation to the Euronest PA and Co-Chair of the Euronest PA

Conference on conflict areas in the Eastern Partnership and human rights, Dec. 2016 

The European Parliament's Subcommittee on Human Rights (DROI) and the Delegation to the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly organised a conference on "Conflict areas in the Eastern Partnership and the situation of human rights" on 8 December 2016.

Introductory comments were provided by

Presentations on specific protracted conflicts and contested territories were given by

  • Ms Oleksandra Matviychuk, Chair of the Centre for Civil Liberties, Ukraine Ms Roxana Cristescu, Head of the Eurasia programme at CMI
  • Mr Irakli Porchkhidze, Vice President of the Georgian Institute of Strategic Studies

Association commitments: Progress in reforms (Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine), Jan. 2016 

The European Parliament Committee on Foreign Affairs and the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly (patronage of the Bureau of the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly and co-organised with the European Parliament Committee on Foreign Affairs) in cooperation with the Open Society European Policy Institute (OSEPI) organised a conference on the progress made by Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine in the implementation of political reform commitments under their EU Association Agreements.

The conference used the latest research and findings gathered by the Open Society Foundations (OSF) in Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine in partnership with local think tanks and NGOs into the state of democratic reforms and the implementation of association commitments. Discussions at the conference focused on three critical reform priorities - justice, fight against corruption and anti-discrimination and equal treatment - and on providing policy recommendations to the EU and national governments.

Hearing on access to justice and rights in protracted conflict zones, February 2015 

The European Parliament's Committee on Foreign Affairs (AFET) and the Delegation to the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly (PA) held a public hearing on 26 February 2015 on "Access to justice and rights in zones affected by protracted conflicts", with a particular focus on the countries of the Eastern Partnership.

The hearing was co-chaired by
  • Elmar Brok, Chair of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, and
  • Heidi Hautala, Chair of the Delegation to the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly.
Speakers included:
  • Roxana Cristescu, Head of Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia Department, Crisis Management Initiative (CMI)
  • representatives of the International Federation of Human Rights Leagues (FIDH).
