On 22 January, members of the EP delegation to the EU-Albania Stabilisation and Association Committee (SAPC), headed by Chair Manolis KEFALOGIANNIS (EPP, EL), met the delegation of the Parliament of Albania at the 17th EU-Albania SAPC in Brussels. The opening session was addressed by Igli HASANI, Minister of European and Foreign Affairs, representing the Government of Albania, as well as by representatives of the Belgian Presidency-in-Office of the Council, the European Commission, and the European External Action Service.

The MEPs and their Albanian counterparts discussed the state of play between the EU and Albania. The SAPC further discussed the ongoing reforms in the areas of rule of law, fight against crime and corruption, economic development, tourism and environmental policies, freedom of the media, and civil society and youth. Lastly, the SAPC talks also covered Albania's regional cooperation and the country's relations with its neighbours. Members of the two delegations negotiated and adopted the text of the SAPC Joint Recommendations, expressing their views on the most relevant issues.

The EP delegation, headed by D-AL Chair Manolis Kefalogiannis (EPP, EL) and consisting of five MEPs, travelled to Tirana to attend the 16th EU-Albania SAPC meeting.

MEPs met their Albanian counterparts to discuss the state of play of the EU-Albania relations, while also addressing the rule of law, fight against corruption, environmental issues, media, youth, emigration as well as Albania's relations with neighbours and regional cooperation.

Members of the SAPC debated and voted on Joint Recommendations expressing the two component delegations' views on the most relevant issues. MEPs met with Prime Minister of Albania Edi Rama, Parliament Speaker Lindita Nikolla, Chief Negotiator Majlinda Dhuka, Minister for Relations with the Parliament Elisa Spiropali, and representatives of parliamentary groups and civil society.

15th EU-Albania Stabilisation and Association Parliamentary Committee (SAPC) meeting in Brussels on 1 and 2 December

On 1 and 2 December, the EP delegation, headed by Manolis Kefalogiannis (EPP, EL) hosted their Albanian counterparts in Brussels, for the 15th EU-Albania SAPC meeting.

The meeting provided members of the two delegations with an opportunity to discuss the state of play of the EU-Albania relations at an important moment, following the first Intergovernmental Conference in July, and the ensuing start of the screening process. The SAPC also discussed the reforms in the areas of judiciary, rule of law and fundamental rights, fight against corruption and organised crime, as well as economic and environmental issues, the ongoing energy crisis, Albania's relations with neighbours and regional cooperation. The SAPC debated and voted on recommendations expressing the two component delegations' views on the most relevant issues they have deliberated.

The European Union-Albania Stabilisation and Association Parliamentary Committee held its 14th meeting in Tirana on 23 and 24 February 2022, under the joint chairmanship of Mr Manolis Kefalogiannis, Chair of the EP Delegation and Mr Taulant Balla, Chair of the Albanian Parliament Delegation.

The members of the Stabilisation and Association Parliamentary Committee addressed the following subjects:

- State of play of the accession negotiations and EU-Albania relations, in the presence of representatives of the Albanian Government, the European Commission and European External Action Service;

- Progress in rule of law, including judiciary reform, and the fight against organised crime, trafficking and corruption

- Fundamental rights, including minority rights, and media freedoms

- Political dialogue and electoral reform

- Health, including the COVID-19 pandemic

- Energy, transition to a green economy and environmental issues

- Regional cooperation
