on incorporating the latest regulatory and technical developments in the United States of America into the Commissions legislative proposals
B8-0516/2014

The European Parliament,

–       having regard to Rule 133 of its Rules of Procedure,

–       having regard to the opinion of the Committee on the Environment on the negotiations for the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP),

–       having regard to the opinion of the Committee on Petitions on the TTIP negotiations,

A.     whereas it has noted on a recurrent basis that the Commission tends to bring forward legislative proposals that provide for regulatory convergence with the United States of America;

B.     whereas US standards, and particularly those in the field of health and animal welfare, are perceived to be lower than those applied in the EU and the Member States, as testified to by numerous petitions and public demonstrations;

C.     whereas the Commissioner for External Trade has offered assurances that this transatlantic treaty, once signed, will not undermine the standards of the EU and the Member States;

1.      Urges the Commission to take stock of the regulatory situation and practices in the United States when drawing up all its future proposals, starting from 1 June 2015, so that it can be fully aware of regulatory gaps and differences in praxis between EU countries and the United States of America;

2.      Instructs its President to forward this resolution, together with the names of the signatories, to the Commission, the Council and the national parliaments.
