on debt relief for Greece

Motion for a European Parliament resolution on debt relief for Greece  

The European Parliament,

–       having regard to Rule 133 of its Rules of Procedure,

A.     whereas on Monday, 13 July 2015 eurozone leaders reached agreement on the terms for an EUR 86 billion loan to Greece;

B.     whereas during the political discussions held prior to that agreement, and even during the negotiations themselves, it was clear to all concerned that Greece's debt was unsustainable;

C.     whereas the President of the European Central Bank, Mario Draghi, has said that Greece's debt burden must be lightened;

D.     whereas the managing director of the International Monetary Fund, Christine Lagarde, has stated that, without debt relief, there can be no solution to the Greek crisis;

1.      Calls on the Commission to look into ways of bringing Greece's debt down to a sustainable level.
