Motion for a European Parliament resolution on computer applications and requests for access to sensitive data  

The European Parliament,

–  having regard to Rule 133 of its Rules of Procedure,

A.  whereas a growing number of software applications for smartphones, tablets, computers, etc. cannot be installed unless permission is given to access personal data, including photos, videos, calendars, contacts, messaging and documents, as well as device identification codes and even the identity of telephone contacts;

B.   whereas, while such applications are indispensable for both professional and private purposes, it is nevertheless urgently necessary to curb such practices;

1.  Calls on the Commission, in view of its responsibilities regarding individual and collective rights under Articles 18 to 25 TFEU and Articles 9 to 12 TEU and for consumer protection under Articles 4(2)(f), 12, 114 and 169 TFEU and under Article 38 of the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights, to regulate this sector by curbing such widespread accessing of sensitive data.
