Motion for a European Parliament resolution on initiatives and proposals in support of Member States’ youth policies

The European Parliament,

–  having regard to Rule 133 of its Rules of Procedure,

A. whereas young Europeans are, in many cases, being hard hit by the economic crisis and showing signs of uncertainty, anxiety, and worry at every turn;

B. whereas the figures on the problems and mental distress that young Europeans are suffering show that cases of this kind are occurring more and more often;

C. whereas those in the most vulnerable position are the many young people experiencing difficulties at school and within their families;

D. whereas the growing need for health care resulting from what is becoming, as described above, an increasingly widespread phenomenon is causing a continuing strain on Member States’ public finances;

1. Calls on the Commission, therefore, to give greater attention to this matter and to treat it as a priority;

2. Proposes that the Commission take legislative measures to support the youth polices of Member States most affected by the employment crisis, in that way boosting the resources available for programmes and funding.
