Motion for a European Parliament resolution on the origin labelling of dairy and meat-based products
The European Parliament,
– having regard to Rule 133 of its Rules of Procedure,
A. whereas Italian consumers and producers are demanding greater transparency in the labelling of agri-food products to protect Italian production from the very widespread phenomenon of counterfeiting;
B. whereas, according to an online public consultation held by the Ministry of Agricultural Policy, 96.5% of Italians are in favour of origin labelling;
C. whereas under Regulation (EU) 1169/2011, France received authorisation from the Commission to introduce a national labelling system for meat and dairy products so that the origin of French animal-based products could be certified;
1. Calls on the Commission to improve the origin labelling system in Europe;
2. Calls on the Commission to follow up on citizens’ demands for a more transparent labelling system for dairy and meat-based products both in Italy and throughout Europe.
