Motion for a European Parliament resolution on information and communication about support from European funds  

The European Parliament,

–  having regard to Regulation (EU) No 1303/2013 of the European Parliament and of the Council laying down common provisions on the European Regional Development Fund, the European Social Fund, the Cohesion Fund, the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development and the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund,

–  having regard to Rule 133 of its Rules of Procedure,

A.  whereas the ‘European’ funds exist only because of Member State, and therefore national taxpayer, contributions;

B.  whereas the beneficiaries and managers of these funds are required to publicise the way the money is used;

C.  whereas the purpose of the mandatory publicity is to raise public awareness;

1.  Takes the view that the public should be given comprehensive information about the use of ‘European’ funds and their origin;

2.  Calls for the mandatory information to include the amount of the contribution paid by the Member State in which the funded project is located and the amount paid back to that Member State;

3.  Instructs its President to forward this resolution to the President of the European Council, the Council and the Commission.
