Motion for a European Parliament resolution on protecting industries affected by the sanctions against Russia

The European Parliament,

–  having regard to Rule 133 of its Rules of Procedure,

A.  whereas the EU sanctions against Russia and the ensuing Russian embargo on some Italian and European exports to Russia have to date cost Italian companies some EUR 12 billion and the Veneto region more than EUR 2 billion;

B.  whereas the Veneto region’s farming and fishing, food products, textiles and manufacturing industries (furniture, jewellery and eyewear) have been hit hardest by the direct and indirect repercussions of the embargo;

C.  whereas those tit-for-tat measures have resulted in a boom in sales of fake Italian products in Russia, causing very substantial economic and image problems for the producers of high-quality goods from the Veneto region and Italy as a whole;

1.  Calls on the Commission to consider ending the sanctions and re-establishing fruitful trade relations with Russia;

2.  Calls on the Commission to grant extraordinary aid to companies from the Veneto region, Italy and Europe which have been affected by the Russian embargo and directly and indirectly hit by the sanctions against Moscow.
