Interchange fees for card-based payment transactions (A8-0022/2015 - Pablo Zalba Bidegain)
Marlene Mizzi (S&D), in writing. ‒ I was really happy to vote in favour of the regulation on interchange fees for card-based payment transactions. This regulation is an important consumer policy reform based on which consumers can look forward to saving EUR 730 million every year. The legislation will set caps for card payment fees that banks can charge retailers when a purchase is made via a debit or credit card. As retailers in turn usually pass on the fees to the customer, the new ceilings should lead to lower prices for goods and services.
