Siôn Simon (S&D), in writing. ‒ Today, Labour MEPs and the Socialists and Democrats Group voted in favour of the report on progress on equality between women and men in the European Union in 2013. This is a yearly report from the Committee on Womenʼs Rights and Gender Equality to outline the advances that have been made.

Key priorities set out in this report include further mainstreaming of gender into policymaking and budget procedures, the urgent need to increase womenʼs participation in the labour market and enforcement of the directive dealing with equal opportunities and treatment in employment. In addition, the report highlights the need for the Council to state its position on the blocked maternity leave directive.
