Doru-Claudian Frunzulică (S&D), in writing. ‒ I believe that the EU must take action on different levels to greatly reduce health—related infections, which are putting an enormous strain on healthcare systems. Adequate resources must be invested in patient safety and the fight against drug resistance. I welcome the very positive aspects introduced in this report, such as the willingness to develop patient safety strategies on prevention, education, awareness-raising, diagnosis and treatment; the focus on the necessity to provide training of healthcare professionals in infection prevention and control; the inclusion of the need to ensure better monitoring and data collection of HAIs; the proper screening and isolation of patients transferred from other regions. This report also positively highlights the importance of the responsible use of antibiotics in the fight against drug resistance, and addresses scientific, regulatory and economic challenges to encourage R&D into new antimicrobials. I support the promotion of the One Health strategy and the link between human and animal health and the environment. Finally, I believe we must ensure adequate funding to provide high—quality healthcare systems throughout Europe.
