Therese Comodini Cachia (PPE), in writing. ‒ I have voted in favour of this motion for resolution as it continues to further strengthen consumer protection within the European Union. Consumers have increasingly become more conscious of the food products they wish to acquire. Through these amendments the regulation is changed so as to give Parliament the power of co-decision. This right will enable the Parliament to be more effective and improve the lives of the citizens. In this case, the levels of radioactive contamination of food were set by Euratom experts while the legal basis was changed to reflect the Parliament’s power of codecision. I have thus voted in favour.
