The role of intercultural dialogue, cultural diversity and education in promoting EU fundamental values (A8-0373/2015 - Julie Ward)

Margot Parker (EFDD), in writing. ‒ UKIP voted against this non-legislative report. This report provided another dimension in which the EU’s scope could be widened in the field of education, external relations, mobility and integration, while promoting ‘EU fundamental values’. This report calls for the addition of intercultural dialogue into national curricula, EU representation within the UN, and the harmonising of visa procedures, and calls for additional funding, all for the purpose of preventing radicalisation and helping integration. Whilst we agree that radicalisation, extremism and integration are issues to be tackled, such issues are to be resolved at nation state level. We oppose any calls for the EU to influence or interfere with the education and national curricula of Member States. We feel particularly strongly with regard to the exploiting of EU financial instruments and mobility programmes to justify the free movement of people, all at the taxpayers’ expense.
