Pavel Telička (ALDE), in writing. ‒ This report sets out the EU’s new global strategy in light of the new global challenges and security threats. I voted in favour, as I agree that our strategy must be anchored in our fundamental values of peace, well-being and security and carried by a real commitment to implement them. However, we must ensure that these values are inclusive and shared, which has not been the case, as this year’s tragic events have reminded us. While our presence globally is very important, we need to pay particular attention to stabilising Europe’s wider neighbourhood, by standing firm by our values, taking on more responsibility and engaging in constructive partnerships. Strengthening our defence capabilities as well as real intelligence sharing between all members is also essential.
