Multiannual recovery plan for Bluefin tuna (A8-0367/2015 - Gabriel Mato)
Doru-Claudian Frunzulică (S&D), in writing. ‒ When dealing with this fishing sustainability, we must safeguard long-term productivity, promote local employment opportunities, encourage the development of a sustainable fisheries policy and a responsible exploitation of fisheries resources. Unfortunately, the current Bluefin tuna fishing quota system penalises small-scale fishermen, and needs to be reviewed. Owners of large vessels are too dominant and might harm fishing sustainability.
I therefore support transposal into Union law of the measures of the multiannual Bluefin Tuna recovery plan in the Eastern Atlantic and the Mediterranean adopted by the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT) at its annual meetings between 2012 and 2014. I believe that the technical measures included in the multiannual recovery plan will lead to positive developments for environment, nature and local employment.
