Jasenko Selimovic (ALDE). – Fru talman!

Andrea Bocskor (PPE).

Xabier Benito Ziluaga (GUE/NGL).

Josep-Maria Terricabras (Verts/ALE).

Jude Kirton-Darling (S&D). – Madam President, for decades the EU has channelled vital funding to the northeast of England, my home region. Between 2014 and 2020 we were set to receive over half a billion pounds sterling in regional and social funding. This money underpins our local economy, securing thousands of jobs, developing key infrastructure and driving real innovation and excellence in our region.

Following the Brexit vote, there is a real danger that one of the poorest English regions could be heavily out of pocket. We were promised by the Leave campaigners that Brexit would make us richer and that these funds would be protected, but ministers have only committed to underwriting contracts concluded by the autumn statement. That is just not good enough. Tonight I call on the British Government to guarantee that all EU funds promised are delivered and that long-term investment in regions like mine is guaranteed.

Marian Harkin (ALDE). – Madam President, is the Commission apolitical? Well, recent statements by Moscovici and Vestager about the EUR 13 billion simply waiting for Ireland to collect have convinced me that it is not. They have said Ireland can spend all of this money on hospitals and schools, yet they know that many other countries, including the US are already lining up to get their fair share of the cake, and that whatever share is left for Ireland will be a fraction. Yet they have dangled what I now call the ‘Brussels bribe’ in front of our noses. Our French Commissioner rubbed our noses in it by expressing his surprise: the Irish did not want this money in light of the crisis.

This is the self-same Commission that, as part of the Troika, forced us to shoulder over 60% of the cost of the crisis and to pay unsecured bondholders, some of whom, I have no doubt, were in French banks. It reminds me of the Brexiteers who promised EUR 350 million per week to the UK National Health Service if people voted to leave. It is the worst kind of politics from the Commission: promising what you cannot deliver.

MPphoto

Matt Carthy (GUE/NGL). – Madam President, the then Fianna Fáil Government’s response to the financial and banking crisis in Ireland included well-known pillars such as the burdening of private debt on ordinary families and the imposition of a savage austerity agenda, but it also included another pillar, the establishment of NAMA (the National Asset Management Agency), set up as a ‘bad bank’ – although even those of us who opposed its creation failed to imagine just how bad it would become.

It is now clear that NAMA’s sale in 2014 of its Project Eagle property portfolio in the North of Ireland was based on bribery and insider trading. Assets were sold to a US vulture fund at a shocking discount of 72% – billions below their value.

All NAMA transactions must be suspended immediately. It is clear that the Irish Government cannot delay a commission of investigation much longer. Irish taxpayers should not have to wait for another state aid investigation to get to the truth about how they have been fleeced.

James Carver (EFDD). – Madam President, the many threats facing Europe’s bee population, including those of environmental changes and the Varroa parasite, are well known, but it is my duty to address the appalling lack of focus and public attention being given to the spread of the small hive beetle in southern Italy. This parasite has been wreaking havoc on Italian beekeepers for over two years and despite serious eradication efforts similar to the failed attempts in the United States, Canada and Australia, the small hive beetle has now established itself in Italy, and what is more, it is there to stay.

Tonight I call for the immediate ban on the export of all Italian queen bees and the placing of a movement ban on Italian hives. Unless such drastic steps are taken, our honeybees face extinction. British and European beekeepers are calling for this, but, to their despair, no one listens. Action must now be taken or it will be too late.

Martina Anderson (GUE/NGL). – Madam President, the British Government, not content with dragging the people of the North of Ireland out of the EU, are now keeping us in the dark about their intentions for our future.

Theresa May’s Government is divided and confused. Brexit means Brexit, but what does it mean for the people of England, Scotland or Wales and for the people in the North of Ireland? They do not know, and that is hurting communities and businesses. Both the British and Irish Governments must immediately explore ways by which the democratic wishes of the people of the North of Ireland can be respected.

Fifty-six per cent of the people voted to remain – so they need to listen to the people, including human rights groups, language activists, children’s campaigners, businesses, the voluntary and community sector, students, farmers and political parties, who all said loud and clear: ‘remain means remain’. Hundreds and thousands of us in the North of Ireland have Irish passports and that means we are EU citizens, therefore remain must mean remain.

A projekt neve: „Sokszínű Európa”.

Andor Deli (PPE). – Madam President, the goal of each western Balkan state is to join the European Union. This political ambition cannot be overlooked or neglected because it could easily cause accession fatigue.

I am glad to see that the European People’s Party is working very intensively with the western Balkan countries. The presence of the EPP and, through that, the presence of Christian democratic values in the region is of great importance. This was underpinned by yesterday’s election victory of the HDZ in Croatia but the EPP was also very active in the resolution of political stalemates in Macedonia and Bosnia-Herzegovina. I would like especially to emphasise the ambition of the governing Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) to become an associate member of the EPP. We will see the final decision on this request in November. Through that the EPP will gain a strong member party which would greatly help in terms of its ambition to fortify stability in the region.

Podobně byly odloženy i cesty dalších výborů.
