EU strategy for the Alpine region (A8-0226/2016 - Mercedes Bresso)

Daciana Octavia Sârbu (S&D), in writing. ‒ A macro-regional strategy is vitally important for the Alpine region and a common approach will help address the challenges and opportunities shared by seven countries with a collective population of approximately 80 million people. Some flexibility will be needed, given the variety of national, regional and local authorities from multiple countries which are responsible for administering the region. The fragile environmental situation combined with the presence and importance of tourism present particular problems; the strategy must prioritise environmental concerns so that the economic opportunities remain sustainable and Alpine heritage is protected.
