Social dumping in the EU (A8-0255/2016 - Guillaume Balas)

Lieve Wierinck (ALDE), in writing. – I voted in favour of the Parliamentary resolution because I recognise that social dumping is an important issue in the EU that needs to be addressed. Especially in the transport sector action needs to be taken. The Commission has already indicated that it is working on this. Setting up a European Road and Transport Agency can help in this regard. I agree that it is very important that fair competition is guaranteed. In order to ensure this, both fraud and tax evasion need to be combated. With regard to the enforcement of adherence to current legislation, I welcome specific measures mentioned in this resolution. The use of technology will play a strong role herein. Member States’ authorities should focus more on an exchange of information on the posting of workers and the companies involved in this. However, we should avoid the misuse of the term ‘social dumping’ for protectionist purposes.
