Mercedes Bresso (S&D), in writing. ‒ I endorsed the authorisation given by the Parliament to Austria and Romania to accept the accession of Peru to the 1980 Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction. Indeed, I believe the 1980 Hague Convention is an important and successful instrument aimed at settling cases of international child abduction through cooperation between states. The accession of Peru needs the authorisation of the Council due to the fact that Austria and Romania had not accepted Peru yet. This resolution is important because many EU citizens are of Peruvian origin and as a consequence the Convention will help more European families deal with separations or divorces.
