Presidente. – Prima di passare alla comunicazione do la parola all'onorevole Dartmouth.

William (The Earl of) Dartmouth (EFDD). – Mr President, I have a point of order. I rise under Rule 11(3). Last year the Conference of Presidents appointed Mr Guy Verhofstadt as the European Parliament’s Brexit negotiator, but Mr Verhofstadt has in addition four outside jobs. That’s four. Three of these jobs pay up to EUR 5 000 per month and one of them pays more than EUR 10 000 per month. As we all know, Mr Verhofstadt is of course a man of integrity, a man of honour and a man of probity. But how, therefore, can a man of Mr Verhofstadt’s integrity in good conscience carry out and fulfil all his responsibilities in his four outside jobs and be the European Parliament’s Brexit negotiator? I would ask that this appointment be reconsidered.

Jo Leinen (S&D). – Mr President, as the British Parliament passed the Brexit bill yesterday evening and Article 50 will be triggered by the end of the month, you should urge the Brexiteers in this House to give up leadership positions before the April part—session.

Is it not absurd that Mr Farage, who wants to destroy the EU, gets almost 260 daily allowances a year without doing any work in the committees in this House? If he were to stand by his convictions, he would refuse the privileges of those who want to remain in the EU.

Presidente. – Grazie per il suggerimento. Non è questa la seduta dove discutere del Brexit. Ci saranno discussioni lunghe e importanti su questo argomento. Io direi di passare ai lavori odierni.

Anna Maria Corazza Bildt (PPE). – Mr President, I would like to ask Vice-President Timmermans if the absence of the responsible Commissioner on the Internal Market, Bieńkowska, or the Vice-President responsible, Katainen, this morning to present the revision of the firearms directive was justified, or if it was a deliberate decision to have the Home Affairs Commissioner to present an internal market legislation. This Parliament spent one year to tell the Commission that it is not an anti-terror law. It is because we have freedom of movement that we need to have minimum common rules in the internal market. Why do you not listen to us and make it so difficult to put the facts on the ground on what this directive is about?

Ana Gomes (S&D). – Mr President, a tragedy occurred two days ago in Ethiopia with more than 60 people, mostly women and children, losing their lives in a landslide at a rubbish dump. This happened in a country which is a major recipient of funds from the EU. As well as expressing our solidarity with the people of Ethiopia, we should ask the Commission to enquire into the level of misgovernance and oppression that the EU is funding in Ethiopia today, where people are losing their lives at the mercy of a dictatorship which is totally anti-democratic.

President. – I have decided to impose a sanction on Mr Korwin-Mikke for the remarks he made on women during the plenary sitting of 1 March 2017 in the course of the debate on the gender pay gap, chaired by a woman, Vice-President Gebhardt.

(Applause)

I consider that these remarks constituted a violation of the principle laid down in Rule 11 of our Internal Rules of Procedure. Therefore, in accordance with Rule 166 of the Rules of Procedure, and having taken note of the written observation that Mr Korwin-Mikke has submitted, I have decided to impose the following penalties. The first: a forfeiture of his entitlement to the daily allowances for a period of 30 days. Additionally, without prejudice to the right to vote in plenary, the temporary suspension from participation in all the activities of Parliament for a period of 10 days starting from today. Furthermore, Mr Korwin-Mikke is prohibited from representing Parliament on any interparliamentary delegations, interparliamentary conferences or any interinstitutional forums for a period of one year starting from today.

(Applause)

The decision has been communicated to the Member concerned.
