Annual strategic report on the implementation and delivery of the Sustainable Development Goals (debate)

Benedek Jávor, on behalf of the Verts/ALE Group. – Madam President, I would like to thank the rapporteurs for this strategic INI report which serves as an input from the Parliament ahead of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) summit of September 2019, and also as a reaction to the recent Commission reflection paper.

But Parliament stresses that more efforts are required from the Member States and the Commission. We need finally an all—encompassing, transformative EU 2030 strategy that integrates SDGs into all EU policies and applies a multi—level approach in governance in line with the recent Think 2030 work. It is not enough to use our existing policies, tools or indicators. We need a real paradigm shift, mainstreaming, and concrete tangible actions, targets and deadlines, including a robust sustainability proofing, consistent indicators and an effective monitoring framework. All EU infrastructure decisions, all EU revenues and expenditures must be aligned with the SDGs and the next Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) should reflect this to the fullest. In order to safeguard these principles, the EU still has a long way to go.
