Conclusions of the European Council meeting of 12 and 13 December 2019 (debate)

Alexandra Lesley Phillips (NI). – Madam President, well I see the European Parliament has already started to cut its emissions: there’s more people in the gallery than in the Chamber, and you lot are actually supposed to believe in this project. What a joke!

For three years, most people in this building have been in complete denial. You hoped by bullying the UK and conspiring with Brexit naysayers in our own Parliament, the Great British people would be worn down and change their minds. How wrong you were: voters don’t live in your EU bubble. They don’t want lives run by unaccountable EU fanatics, and despite your best efforts, Brexit will be a massive success. The UK now has real leverage in negotiations, and I hope Boris Johnson will tell you lot to forget your level playing field, ditch your regulations, and we will embrace full-fat freedom.

We won’t just survive; we will thrive. Rather than fight the inevitable, the EU should watch and learn as the UK becomes truly democratic and global, because if you do not – mark my words – the federalists will see your stupid project relegated to the dustbin of history.

Merry Brexmas.
