E-000117-15
Question for written answer E-000117-15
to the Commission
Rule 130
Roger Helmer (EFDD)

 Subject:  Lightweight plastic bags
 Answer in writing

In 2013, the legislative proposal for a directive aimed at reducing the consumption of lightweight plastic carrier bags was published. Since then, treatment of different materials of plastic bags has varied considerably in the proposals.

Now that a compromise has been reached in the trilogue meetings, there is a need for clarification:
1. Will all materials be treated identically from an EU perspective, thus not giving advantage to biodegradable plastic bags?
2. Does the Commission take the view that there is a level playing field between the different types of plastic bags on the EU level now?
