E-000854-15
Question for written answer E-000854-15
to the Commission
Rule 130
Anneliese Dodds (S&D)

 Subject:  Export of live animals
 Answer in writing

When animals are exported out of the EU live, they are no longer protected by EU legislation and can be kept or slaughtered in systems that would be illegal in the EU.

Could the Commission provide information on the following three questions?

1. How many sheep, bovines and pigs were exported live (for breeding or for slaughter) from the UK to countries outside the EU in 2014?

2. What mode of transport was used to export these animals?

3. With regard to animals exported for breeding, can it be confirmed whether they were exported to farming systems that would meet EU animal welfare law?
