E-001952/2015(ASW)
Answer given by Mr Vella on behalf of the Commission
Question reference: E-001952/2015

The Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) covers the activities in relation to the conservation of marine biological resources and the management of fisheries and fleets exploiting such resources. This allows also for management and measures under the CFP in relation to recreational fishing.

The Commission monitors the situation of recreational fisheries in particular where this type of fishing may have a significant impact on the state of conservation of the resources. Where necessary, the Commission proposes measures, such as the recent proposal in relation to sea bass fishing(1).

In the preparation of multiannual plans, the Commission will review the necessity to include management of recreational fishing on a case-by-case basis.
