Question for written answer E-003428-15
to the Commission
Rule 130
Traian Ungureanu (PPE)

Subject:  Romanian Government's new draft Fiscal Code
 Answer in writing

The Romanian Government has recently presented a draft Fiscal Code that would be enforced from 2015. According to the head of the Fiscal Council in Romania, the new fiscal code as drafted by the government led by Victor Ponta, would result in a budgetary shortfall of about 37 billion lei (approx. EUR 4 billion) in four years.

Under these circumstances, and since the Commission has not yet issued a public opinion, may I ask:
1. Did the Romanian Government consult the Commission before presenting its draft Fiscal Code?
2. If so, what does the Commission think about the impact of the new Fiscal Code on the Romanian budget?
