Question for written answer E-009703-15
to the Council
Rule 130
Marielle de Sarnez (ALDE)

Subject:  Definition of a European drone
 Answer in writing

On 18 May 2015, the Defence Ministers of France, Germany and Italy signed a declaration of intent concerning the launch of technical studies with a view to the definition of a European medium-altitude long-endurance (MALE) drone, the market for which is currently dominated by the USA and Israel.

The project would be conducted with the support of the European Defence Agency and under the direction of the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, and accords with the desire expressed by the European Council in December 2013 to develop Community surveillance and defence systems by 2020/2025.

How will the Council organise the financing of this project? Will it adopt the cooperative economic model applied to the design of the Airbus?
