Question for written answer E-013262-15
to the Commission
Rule 130
Jeppe Kofod (S&D)

Subject:  Breeding of mink for use in fur production
 Answer in writing

1. Will the Commission ensure that in connection with the forthcoming animal welfare strategy particular attention is given to the breeding of mink and other animals for use in fur production, including specifically a requirement that control of producers is tightened significantly?2. Will the Commission take steps to ban the so-called group housing method, where as many as 5 animals are kept in the same cage, which inevitably leads to bite wounds?3. Will the Commission ensure that requirements are put in place for more suitable living conditions for mink, such as the provision of swimming water?
