 Subject:  International Basketball Federation
 Answer in writing

In Parliament's resolution of 10 March 2015 on the Annual Report on EU Competition Policy, it is stated in paragraph 94 that Parliament ‘Urges the Commission to look into the restrictive and abusive practices of international sport federations, such as denying their members the right to take part in alternative sport events that are not sanctioned by the respective federations’.

According to several recent news reports, the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) is penalising, or threatening to penalise, some national federations by excluding their national teams from international competitions such as the European Championship and the Olympic Games, because some of their member clubs have chosen to play in international club competitions, such as the Euroleague and Eurocup, which are alternative sports events to those organised by FIBA itself.

What urgent steps or measures does the Commission plan to take to put a stop to those FIBA practices which appear to be of the restrictive and abusive type that Parliament urged the Commission to look into?
