The recent comments made by Commissioner Andriukaitis regarding electronic cigarettes suggest that the Commission is looking to further regulate these products.

It will be aware that many medical authorities have supported the use of electronic cigarettes as part of a tobacco control strategy and that much evidence has been presented to the Commission and Parliament in this regard.

— Is the Commission considering further regulation of electronic cigarettes, and what measures would the Commission envisage?

— If not, could it please explain the comments made by Commissioner Andriukaitis during a recent sitting of the ENVI Committee at which he stated that ‘electronic cigarettes should be regulated as strongly as possible’?
