E-005067/2016(ASW)
Answer given by Vice-President Mogherini on behalf of the Commission
Question reference: E-005067/2016

The EU is very concerned about the recent rise in demolitions and confiscations of Palestinian structures in the West Bank by Israeli authorities. The EU consults continuously with Member States to ensure a joint approach and common messages on demolitions, which are also regularly discussed by EU Heads of Missions in Jerusalem and Ramallah. The EU frequently raises the matter with Israeli interlocutors and condemns demolitions in its public statements.

Since 2009, approximately 180 EU-funded structures to a value of EUR 329 000 have been demolished or confiscated. About 600 structures, worth almost EUR 2.4 million, have been subject to orders for demolition, stop-work or eviction. The possibility of asking Israel for financial or other compensation or restitution is amongst the options under consideration by the EU with Member States, as a means of effectively responding to the situation on the ground.
