E-006709-16
Question for written answer E-006709-16
to the Commission
Rule 130
Franz Obermayr (ENF)

Subject:  EU funding for Palestinian settlement areas in Israel
 Answer in writing

In September 2012, the Commission decided that it would invest EUR 100 million for Palestine for improving ‘water and sanitation and supporting refugees, as well as a package of support to Area C’.(1)

According to the Interim Agreement (1995) between Israel and the ‘Palestinians’ (Oslo II), Area C consists of those areas that are under full Israeli responsibility. According to the monthly newspaper ‘Jüdische Rundschau’, this construction work is taking place without any coordination with Israel.(2)

In view of the above, will the Commission say:
1. Is it true that this construction work is taking place without any coordination with Israel?
2. Does it agree that this construction work is a violation of the Interim Agreement of 1995?
