E-007409-16
Question for written answer E-007409-16
to the Commission
Rule 130
Matt Carthy (GUE/NGL)

Subject:  Legislation to protect pet animals
 Answer in writing

There is currently very little EU legislation in place to protect cats and dogs, and it is becoming increasingly evident that what little legislation does exist is not being enforced to a proper standard.

— Can the Commission outline how it monitors the implementation of Regulation 1/2005 on the protection of animals during transport and related operations, and Regulation 576/2013 on the non-commercial movement of pet animals?— Specifically, can the Commission explain how the two regulations are enforced, and state whether there are any plans to strengthen enforcement of welfare standards for dogs and cats in the future?
