Question for written answer E-007695-16
to the Commission
Rule 130
Maria Noichl (S&D)

Subject:  Impact of Regulation (EC) No 1/2005 on animal welfare
 Answer in writing

Given the divergence between the official declarations by the Bulgarian competent authorities and the contents of the report submitted by the Animal Welfare Foundation (AWF) as a part of its formal complaint, does the Commission consider it necessary to carry out its own inspections?

Given the divergence between the data reported by AWF/TSB and Eyes on Animals as well as by Animals Angels, and the annual report submitted by the Bulgarian competent authority to the Commission, could the Commission share with Parliament the data recorded in the TRACES system for the years 2015-2016 as well as the reports submitted by the Bulgarian competent authority to the Commission for the years 2015-2016?

Bearing in mind the report, footage and the formal complaint received in 2016, does the Commission consider it appropriate to draft a new report to Parliament and the Council concerning the impact of Regulation (EC) No 1/2005 on the welfare of animals?
