E-000463/2017(ASW)
Joint answer given by Mr Hogan on behalf of the Commission
Written questions: E-000464/17 , E-000463/17
Question references: E-000463/2017, E-000464/2017

Articles 18 and 36-39 of Regulation (EU) 1305/2013(1) provide for support by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD) for investments to restore agricultural production potential damaged by natural disasters and for risk management measures, including crop, animal, and plant insurance, mutual funds and income stabilisation tools.

The Greek Rural Development Programme (RDP) 2014-2020 currently provides for support to restore damaged agricultural production potential but not for risk management measures. It should be underlined that the EAFRD does not provide compensation for damage and/or loss of income covered by the Hellenic Organisation of Agricultural Insurances.

In addition to support granted by EAFRD, EU rules on state aid in the agricultural sector allow Member States to set up national aid schemes to compensate for damage caused by natural disasters. Greece has established such schemes.

For more information on specific measures of the Greek Rural Development Programme for 2014-2020, and their implementation, the Honourable Member is advised to contact directly the Managing Authority of the Greek Rural Development Programme(2).
