Question for written answer E-002142-17
to the Commission
Rule 130
Stefan Eck (GUE/NGL) , Eleonora Evi (EFDD) , Klaus Buchner (Verts/ALE)

Subject:  Global sustainable food production and working animals
 Answer in writing

The Committee on World Food Security adopted its latest report (CFS 2016/43) in Rome in October 2016. The EU and its Member States are signatories to the report.

The report states that ‘for the purpose of these recommendations, references to the livestock sector or livestock production systems refer to the entire livestock sector and animal sourced foods, including working animals and draught power that facilitate food production’.

1. The EU has global sustainable food production among its goals. How is this reflected in EU policies concerning subsistence farming and working animals?

2. How does the Commission intend to include the protection of livestock and working animals, and to recognise their contributions, in current and future policies to achieve food security for the world?
