Question for written answer E-003641-17
to the Commission
Rule 130
Mairead McGuinness (PPE)

Subject:  Second action plan on antimicrobial resistance (AMR)
 Answer in writing

Ahead of the Commission’s publication of its second action plan for curbing antimicrobial resistance in the EU, is it considering how the action plan might support awareness among farmers of antimicriobial resistance and measures to ensure more sustainable animal husbandry practices?

What research is the Commission conducting on alternatives to antimicrobial use?

In 2015, a World Health Organisation survey found that most countries had no action plan in place to address antibiotic resistance. Against this backdrop, how will the Commission ensure that Member States adapt and implement action plans?
