Question for written answer E-006757-17
to the Commission
Rule 130
Tonino Picula (S&D)

Subject:  Accession of Croatia to the eurozone
 Answer in writing

The Economic and Monetary Union (EMU) represents a major step in the integration of EU economies. It was launched in 1992. All 28 Member States take part in the economic union. Among these, 19 have adopted the euro to form the eurozone.

1. What plans does the Commission have with regard to the eurozone, its expansion and its maintenance and future development?

According to the Commission’s assessment of the 2016 Convergence Programme for Croatia, there is a risk that Croatia will not comply with the provisions of the Stability and Growth Pact.

2. How will the Commission assist in ensuring that Croat is able to meet its commitments in this regard, and how does it view the prospects for Croatia, given its current progress, of entering the eurozone?
