 Subject:  The use of environmental logos linked to fossil fuels
 Answer in writing 

The use of natural gas as an alternative fuel is an option for many transport companies, since it can be up to 40% cheaper than diesel, emits 25% less CO2 and does not emit other pollutants such as sulphur dioxide, nitrogen oxides or aromatic hydrocarbons.

These advantages mean that many advertising campaigns for the promotion of this fuel use phrases and logos such as ‘green thinking’(1), or images of nature linked to refuelling with LNG(2), or with respect to its carbon footprint that make citizens believe that the gas used in vehicles is a renewable or clean energy.

Given that methane is a fossil fuel and is up to 80 times more potent as a greenhouse gas than CO2, does the Commission consider that the use of logos and slogans relating to renewable energies by the players involved in the chain of distribution and consumption of gases used as fuel for vehicles is misleading for citizens?

Is the Commission considering the possibility of regulating the use of slogans and logos for renewable energies to avoid them being used in a misleading manner?
