Question for written answer E-007432-17
to the Commission
Rule 130
Roberta Metsola (PPE)

Subject:  Enforcement of Regulation (EC) No 1/2005 on animal transport
 Answer in writing

Council Regulation (EC) No 1/2005 of 22 December 2004 on the protection of animals during transport is based on the principle that animals must not be transported in a way likely to cause injury or undue suffering to them.

For journeys exceeding eight hours, the regulation provides for more efficient monitoring tools and lays down stricter rules, including the substantial upgrading of vehicle standards.

Can the Commission provide information on the action it has taken to monitor the enforcement of the regulation in the different Member States and whether it thinks that more action is necessary to ensure that it is complied with?
