E-007530-17
Question for written answer E-007530-17
to the Commission
Rule 130
Pedro Silva Pereira (S&D)

Subject:  Proposal — FDI screening mechanism
 Answer in writing

The Commission’s legislative proposal for an EU screening mechanism of foreign direct investment in strategic sectors raises some questions and reservations. A comprehensive impact assessment should have been conducted before bringing a legislative proposal forward. The need for a swift proposal does not seem a very convincing and sound argument.

Has the Commission assessed the instruments currently in place and how they can be fully used? On what basis does the Commission think that this draft regulation is the most adequate instrument? How would any conflict between Member States be resolved?
