E-000671-18
Question for written answer E-000671-18
to the Commission
Rule 130
Sylvie Guillaume (S&D)

Subject:  Application of the General Data Protection Regulation
 Answer in writing

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) adopted in April 2016 will become enforceable on 25 May 2018.

On 24 January, the Commission published guidelines to help Member States correctly enforce the regulation and inform citizens and stakeholders at an early enough stage to guarantee the swift and smooth application of the GDPR.

Does the Commission intend to help national data protection authorities and Member States to disseminate information on the application of the regulation, especially locally?

How will the Commission ensure that SMEs understand their obligations, especially those dealing with sensitive data, and what help can the Commission provide regarding the ‘data protection officer’ and keeping records of data processing?

When will the online tool for SMEs be available in all the official languages of the EU, as this is important for helping them understand all their duties?
