Question for written answer E-002387-18
to the Commission
Rule 130
Nikolaos Chountis (GUE/NGL)

Subject:  Business Park in Mantoudi, Euboea
 Answer in writing

Despite the objections of residents and the Municipality of Limni Mandoudi-Agia Anna, a Joint Ministerial Decision was issued on 31.12.2012 establishing a Type A (high nuisance) Business Park in the environmentally degraded area of Mandoudi in Euboea, in order to license a company that wanted to set up an 1160MW electricity generating plant.

On 12 March 2014, the Energy Regulatory Authority revoked the construction licence for the plant (Decision 139/2014), at the request of the company in question.

However, local residents and bodies and the Municipal Council (by 5 successive decisions) have been asking, in the new regional planning framework that is in its final phase, for the approval of a Type B (medium nuisance) Business Park, which would be in line with the actual circumstances of the region, an opinion expressed by an overwhelming majority also during the consultation.

Given that the Greek State is insisting on approving a Type A Business Park, can the Commission say:

Is it aware of the reasons why the Greek State is insisting on the establishment of a Type A Business Park in the region?

Has it requested EU co-financing to set up this Business Park or to fund investment in it?

In any case, since the revocation of the decision for the construction of the electricity generating plant, for which the establishment of a Type A Business Park had been approved in 2012, is a major change, does it not agree that a fresh consultation should be held on this matter?
