E-004346/2018(ASW)
Answer given by Ms Vestager on behalf of the European Commission
Question reference: E-004346/2018

The Commission is continuing its formal investigation procedure into the entire EUR 900 million loan granted by the Italian State to Alitalia, as previously reported in the replies to written questions E-002240/2018, E-002337/2018 and E-002971/2018.

The Italian authorities have been asked to provide clarifications about several issues, including whether interest has been paid to the State on the EUR 900 million loan.

Where the State is a creditor and it waives or fails to claim the interest owed to it on a loan, this could involve state aid in so far as that behaviour is not that of a diligent market economy creditor.
